And the lines are where?

It's been a while since the topic of "the lines" has been broached. Not because the residents haven't been talking about them, but because other topics have been in the forefront - namely the weather.

Unfortunately, you can't comment on the weather and our roads without once again bringing into the picture the dreaded "lines on our roads" (or lack thereof, with the snow-covered streets). My readers have told me that even though it is winter time, they are still not happy with the situation.

We've been told that Weyburn residents are now "comfortable with" the lines and "have settled down" to the new turning lanes. Well, I don't know if these people aren't voicing their concerns or if the powers-that-be just have their heads in the snow, but if anything, it is worse. Why would you introduce this new system in the fall and then, before the kinks could be worked out, the snow fell and people were more confused than ever? On top of that, the Christmas holidays arrived with out-of-towners coming and going, shaking their heads at our "stupid system."

Three times in one day, I was cut off driving by 7-11 when confused navigators didn't know whether they should be in the right turn lane, left turn lane or just moving through the lights right down the middle. With the influx of student drivers commuting to the high school, there are daily mishaps and near-misses with all sorts of gestures being shared.

The other "crazy" spot is the four-way at the corner of Third Street and Railway Avenue. When you are going east and there happens to be a train, you are stuck in the lane at the far right. Traffic is backed up waiting to turn right and you want to go straight, but can go nowhere. How ridiculous is this? So when you bravely venture into the left turn lane (in order to go straight through) you have drivers laying on their horns and road rage entails.

Now, I don't know about you, but my day does not allow me time to sit halfway down Railway Avenue waiting to go straight through traffic for 20 minutes while a train goes through town and half the people in my lane are turning and the other half are trying to go straight. Is this not bizarre? People are honking horns, trying to turn into the left turn lane, only to go straight (are you with me?....I know not confusing at all, right?). Somehow, I don't see drivers "settling down" to this system anytime soon. Maybe instead of being bull-headed and saying "that's the way it's going to be", the taxpayers and residents of this fine city should be taken seriously and some of these changes should be altered for the safety of drivers.

Pet peeve of the week: Going to a 3D movie and paying an extra $3.50 for "recycled" glasses that you are asked to return at the end of the movie. Wouldn't it be smarter to give a reduced rate to people who bring their own glasses instead of making them pay for "recycled" scratched lens glasses EVERY time? What a con! Maybe that's just melet me know what you think!.
