While we were up at the lake we noticed sandwich boards in the middle of the road on main street, advertising Legion Bingo for that night.
Always up for adventure we decided that we definitely needed to add Bingo night to our lake time. We weren’t sure if we’d be able to buy Bingo dabbers there so we hit up the corner store and purchased a pack of highlighters, just in case.
In the last year I have braved our local Bingo night with a group of girlfriends twice. It is a blast! It is also much more intense than I would have suspected.
I tried to prepare my family for what I thought we might encounter at Bingo night and the end result was a load of fun!
I’d like to put out the disclaimer that I am actually not a big fan of gambling. After I won my second Bingo, my daughter quipped, “Mom, you should do this instead of work to make money.” Ha ha.
Don’t worry; we stopped and had an intervention. I look at paying for my Bingo sheets as my activity fee for the night. It’s fully worth it for me for a night of fun and if I win, that’s a bonus.
If you’re not a Bingo regular, here are a few tips!
-Get there early to get your pack and set everything up. Some games require to you “pre-dab” certain numbers.
-Don’t start with too many cards - it can get overwhelming real fast!
-Sit beside somebody who knows what they’re doing. We were often frantically motioning to other tables to figure out what line we were going for. At the lake we sat beside a nice lady and her grandson and they helped us out immensely.
-You have to yell Bingo on the number you got it on. After the next ball drawn, you’ve lost it. Tricky!
What I love about trying new things that are well established in a community is that you get to enter another local “culture,” so to speak and that’s always a great experience.
