Cheers and Jeers: August 19

To the many volunteers from outside the city who made daily trips to help out with Summer Games jobs and to Coun. Kevin Smith for acknowledging them.

To the many volunteers from outside the city who made daily trips to help out with Summer Games jobs and to Coun. Kevin Smith for acknowledging them.

To the lovely couple and their three children who bought supper for me (unexpectedly) at Boston Pizza. I was so overwhelmed with gratitude I forgot to ask them for their names.
But I do say thank you, again.

To the city’s Parks and Recreation department for keeping a lively summer playpark program relevant year-after-year even with aging equipment. Kudos, of course, to the playpark supervisors for putting up with a lot of silliness from the kids while keeping calm.

To the Village of Macoun, the Government of Canada, CP Rail and the Archdiocese of Regina for helping to bring crossing arms to that intersection in Macoun. It was far too dangerous a problem to not do something about.

To the Souris Valley Museum, for putting on an awesome educational day full of great Activities for Pioneer Days, last weekend.

To the Wyatts and the Souris Valley Trekkers, for organizing another awesome Trail Ride and Wagon Trek in Roche Percee. What beautiful weather to be out on the trails.

To the people at Table No. 5 who refused to quit talking during introductions and speeches. You may not have been interested in the speeches, but others were. Your lack of consideration was noted. Of course, after the speeches, you left! You need a lesson in manners. Please remember, the next time you are at a function and someone is speaking, shut up!

To our community for sweeping the death of a child under the rug. Lifeguards are needed at Boundary Dam beach. Right now things are carrying on as if nothing happened. This sickens me. If action was being taken to make it safer, no issue. But nothing is being done. I will not take my children there and will encourage others to stay away.

To the people, especially the young people, who can’t spot a garbage can that’s four feet away. Aren’t you being taught about recycling and proper disposal of items at school or at home?

To police and city employees who don’t obey the city’s 20 km/h vehicle speed limit for back lanes.

To allowing homeowners living on corner lots to build high fences in front and at the sides of their property. Inching halfway into an intersection isn’t a safe choice for checking on oncoming traffic in either direction. It’s even worse when there is a vehicle parked on the curb in front of the yard.
