Cheers:
Cheers to the Orpheum Theatre's cleaning staff for turning in a special toy so it could be returned to the owner the next day. This toy was believed to be lost, and the owners are feeling blessed by people doing the right thing.
Cheers to those who were responsible for a trio of fundraisers in Estevan on Saturday night. Hopefully the Estevan Wildlife Federation, the Estevan branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and Faith Lutheran Church received the support they were looking for.
Cheers to all the recipients and nominees at the Women of Today Awards for all they contribute to the business world, workplace, school and community.
Cheers to the return of the Estevan Farmers’ Market sales. There was lots of selection during the first sale on Saturday.
Cheers to the Bienfait branch of the Royal Canadian Legion for their Chase the Ace fundraiser. It created a lot of excitement in the last few weeks.
Jeers:
Jeers to Estevan city council for approving the eight per cent property tax increase. In a time when people either don't have jobs, or have taken jobs earning less money so they can stay in Estevan, an eight per cent property tax increase is unacceptable.
Jeers to people who walk their dogs down back alleys and don’t clean up after their animals. Some people still try to keep the grass looking descent in the alley.
Jeers to those who have been stunting during the evenings in Estevan. Nobody wants to hear the noise caused by the squealing tires. Please try to think of others.
Jeers to those who didn’t adjust their driving habits during the snow on Sunday and Monday. It’s amazing there wasn’t a slew of accidents due to the unsafe driving of some people.
Jeers to those who are responsible for the latest wave of telephone and Internet scams that are targeting residents and businesses in the community.
