Cheers to the organizers of the Pioneer Echoes weekend in Midale. They celebrated their 50th anniversary with a series of wonderful activities.
Cheers to the Estevan Wildlife Federation for hosting their annual youth camp. And cheers to Dale and Cindy Hokanson for the years they dedicated to the camp.
Cheers to the young people and the instructors who put on the very entertaining Game of Phones production at the Souris Valley Theatre. Some very talented young people were in the cast.
Cheers to everyone who was involved with the Bow Valley Jamboree in Oxbow last Saturday. Saskatchewan is home to some very talented performers.
Cheers to the Estevan Golden Eels Swim Club for winning the provincial title for the third straight year. It speaks to the dedication of the athletes and the coaches.
Cheers to Carlyle’s Carter Morrison. It was great to see him walking alongside Canadian flag-bearer Rosie McLennan during the opening ceremonies of the Rio Olympics.
Cheers to everyone who was involved in the creation and installation of the Estevan Soldiers’ Tree. It is a wonderful addition to downtown Estevan.
Cheers to the City of Estevan for organizing the Playparks Carnival on Wednesday. The kids seemed to be having a great time.
Jeers to the lack of a garbage can in the 300 block of 11th Avenue. While watching the installation of the Soldiers’ Tree, we noticed that there is no longer a garbage can on the property. There used to be one.
Jeers to those who have perpetrated thefts from businesses lately. Business owners have had a hard enough time in the last couple of years. They don’t need people ripping them off.
Jeers to those who speed while travelling down Highway 39. Please tell us why you feel the need to drive more than 130 kilometres per hour. Slow down.
Jeers to sports organizations who cater to and favour certain families over others. People are starting to notice.
Jeers to the few lingering critics of the carbon capture and storage project at Boundary Dam. It just cleared one million tonnes of captured carbon dioxide. And it will capture a lot more.
Jeers to the lack of ice at Affinity Place, and the shift back to the Civic Auditorium. Obviously, what happened is beyond anyone’s control, and you can’t play the blame game with what has happened. But it’s just annoying that we have to use the Civic Auditorium to start the season instead of our great arena.
Jeers to people who smoke on restaurant patios. It’s time to follow Alberta’s lead and make patios smoke-free. I want to enjoy a meal with friends while outdoors on a beautiful, sunny afternoon. I don’t want to be breathing in the second-hand smoke stemming from a filthy habit.
