Cheers and Jeers for Feb. 2

Cheers: Cheers to the organizers of the SaskTel Tankard for the opening ceremonies at the event. It was great to see the young people on the ice with the teams. Cheers to the Estevan Kinettes Club for the Princess and Pirate Ball on the weekend.

Cheers to the organizers of the SaskTel Tankard for the opening ceremonies at the event. It was great to see the young people on the ice with the teams.

Cheers to the Estevan Kinettes Club for the Princess and Pirate Ball on the weekend. The day is always a fun one for the kids.

Cheers to Payton Sernick for being named the Champion Child for the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan. She has a wonderful story.

Cheers to Cole Fonstad for his performance during the Canadian Hockey League’s top prospects game last week. He looked like he belonged with the other top young players.

Cheers to the Estevan Public Library for the Story Walk in Woodlawn Regional Park last week. A fun way to encourage people to read. And the weather was pretty good.

Jeers:

Jeers to having a marijuana dispensary in the city. The community should take a stand and not have marijuana sold in Estevan.

Jeers to the money that the city allocates for donations and sponsorships every year. It’s not that these organizations aren’t worthy of support. But that support shouldn’t come from taxpayer dollars.

Jeers to those who still haven’t received the memo that seatbelts save lives. It’s hard to believe so many people still get ticketed for not buckling up.

Jeers to the motorists who don’t drive according to the road conditions. Slow down a little, particularly when it’s icy out.

Jeers to the ongoing issues with thefts from industrial areas in the city. It’s frustrating that this continues to be an issue this year.
