Cheers:
Cheers to the anonymous Good Samaritan who plowed a local resident’s driveway. It was a fantastic surprise. Thanks to the other Good Samaritans who have been doing the same in the community.
Cheers to the person or people who dropped off some gifts and other baby stuff as a random act of kindness. The help was extremely appreciated by the family.
Cheers to all those who donated to the Estevan Salvation Army, the Community Hamper Association, the Angel Tree program and other initiatives during the Christmas season.
Cheers to the service station employees who have been filling gas tanks despite the recent frigid conditions.
Cheers to all the local young people who went outdoors to skate, toboggan and play some shinny during the Christmas break, and did so in a safe fashion.
Jeers:
Jeers to a store on King Street that refused to sell three iPads on Christmas Eve because they needed them for the Boxing Day sale.
Jeers to a snow removal contractor in the Hillcrest area on Dec. 28. Many residents spent hours clearing their driveways and sidewalks on Boxing Day only to have that person come along and push large piles of snow back up onto perfectly cleared walkways.
Jeers to Estevan Mercury Publications for not printing standings or scoring leaders for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and local minor hockey teams.
Jeers to the snowmobile owners who insist on riding their sleds within city limits, and therefore give snowmobile owners in Estevan a bad name.
Jeers to those who couldn’t behave appropriately on New Year’s Eve, and chose to create disturbances or drive while impaired.
