Cheers and Jeers for June 9

Cheers: Cheers to the city workers and contractors who worked late into the night to fix the transmission line break on Perkins Street. It was great to wake up to running water again.

Cheers to the city workers and contractors who worked late into the night to fix the transmission line break on Perkins Street. It was great to wake up to running water again.

Cheers to the City of Estevan for supporting and proclaiming Pride Week, to the Estevan Comprehensive School for their inaugural flag raising event, and to everyone else who supported LGBTQ Pride in Estevan.

Cheers to the organizers of the Bikers Against Diabetes motorcycle rodeo for their efforts to support local families, and for organizing another fun and family-friendly event on the weekend.

Cheers to the We Club at St. Mary’s School for the Carnival for Change on Saturday. It’s great to see young people raising funds for community organizations.

Cheers to everybody who was involved with the Lampman Sports Weekend. This event always offers lots of sports and fun for the community.

Jeers:

Jeers to the motorist in Estevan who was arrested for driving 130 kilometres per hour where the speed limit is 80, and was found to be impaired. Another unsafe driver on our roads.

Jeers to the condition of Highway 18 west of Estevan. It’s been in awful condition for a number of years, and there’s no sign of improvement.

Jeers to whoever was responsible for incidents of vandalism in Estevan last week. Please leave people’s vehicles and property alone.

Jeers to the fact that King Street was one lane for eastbound traffic in front of the Estevan Shoppers Mall for so many years. You have to wonder why the widening project wasn’t done 20 years ago.

Jeers to motorists who need to drive so close to the centre line. Move a couple inches over; oncoming motorists will feel so much more comfortable.
