Cheers and Jeers for November 4

Cheers: Cheers to the kids involved in the ScreamFest event at the Estevan Public Library on the weekend. They all did a fantastic job and made it a great event.

Cheers to the kids involved in the ScreamFest event at the Estevan Public Library on the weekend. They all did a fantastic job and made it a great event.

Cheers to the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure for putting up an overhead stop sign and lights at the junction of the truck bypass and Highway 47 north.

Cheers to all of the children and parents who were out for Halloween on Monday night and did their trick-or-treating in a safe fashion.

Cheers to Southeast Newcomer Services and the Estevan Curling Club for hosting a learn-to-curl session for newcomers. It’s a fun sport and a great way for newcomers to meet new people.

Cheers to all of the employers in Estevan who were involved with Take our Kids to Work Day on Wednesday. It was great to see so many Grade 9 students learning in the community.

Jeers:

Jeers to the condition of the Highway 47 South service road. It is more like one giant pothole than a road.

Jeers to nurses at the hospital who were recently using their cell phones when they should have been working. There are likely many things they could have been doing for their patients.

Jeers to the ballots that were used by the City of Estevan in the recent civic election. Why were they changed from marking with an “X” or check mark, to tiny ovals that needed to be shaded in?

Jeers to taxi drivers who refuse to turn off their metres during a very long train. It should not cost $18 to get halfway across town.

Jeers to organizers of fundraisers who buy decorations and supplies for their event outside of the city and the country. It's hard to imagine that with the exchange rate a deal could be had, and it is shameful they won’t be purchased from the local business community.
