Cheers and Jeers for Oct. 21

Cheers: Cheers to everyone who was involved with the Model Engineer Show in Estevan during the weekend. The exhibits were fascinating, and the exhibitors are great to talk to.

Cheers to everyone who was involved with the Model Engineer Show in Estevan during the weekend. The exhibits were fascinating, and the exhibitors are great to talk to.

Cheers to the Estevan Police Service for organizing the half marathon on Sunday. Too bad the weather didn’t co-operate. Still, it was good to get out for a run.

Cheers to everybody who helped make this year’s United Way Estevan Telethon such an overwhelming success. It takes the efforts and the donations of a lot of people to raise so much money from a small city in 33 hours.

Cheers to the United Way’s member agencies for their contributions to the community. They improve the lives of so many people on a daily basis.

Cheers to the City of Estevan for offering an advance poll last week. It allowed snowbirds to vote before heading down to Arizona for the winter.

Jeers:

Jeers to those who wear dark clothing while walking at night. Pedestrians have right of way, but it’s hard to yield to them when it’s hard to see them.

Jeers to those who won’t vote, even though they’re eligible to do so, for the civic election, yet will still complain about services in their community. You want to voice an opinion? Then do your research and vote.

Jeers to those who head outside of their hometown for their shopping. Estevan and other communities have some great small businesses. Visit them. You might be surprised with the selection.

Jeers to the lack of discussion about Estevan’s roads during the candidates forum last week. While improvements have been made in the last four years, there is still a lot of work to be done, and it should be the key issue.

Jeers to the talk of transformational change in the school system. While something needs to be done with the health regions, the school divisions are big enough as it is.
