Cheers and Jeers for Sept. 30

Cheers: Cheers to the two gentlemen who helped a woman with broken windshield wipers on Sept.

Cheers:

Cheers to the two gentlemen who helped a woman with broken windshield wipers on Sept. 22 at the 7-11 on King Street, despite the pouring rain, and to David Dzeryk at the Great Canadian Oil Change for his advice and assistance during a dilemma.

Cheers to Fire Chief Dale Feser and the Estevan Fire Rescue Service for the quick response during a recent evacuation at the Estevan Shoppers Mall, and their outstanding effectiveness to resolve the situation.

Cheers to the Estevan Motor Speedway for rescheduling the demolition derby. While some drivers would have enjoyed battling it out in the mud, the spectators might not have been so happy to be outdoors in the wind and/or the rain.

Cheers to the organizers of the Estevan Showcase Business Expo. The volunteers worked hard to put on a good event and to ensure that the exhibitors were taken care of.

Cheers to a great weekend for Estevan Comprehensive School’s athletes. The football team won at home, the senior girls volleyball team won their home tournament and the boys golf team won provincials.

Jeers:

Jeers to a lack of communication during a recent evacuation stemming from a gas leak. There weren’t any details about a muster point for the evacuees, and there wasn’t any word to people when it was safe to return.

Jeers to a Saskatchewan Crown corporation who hired Alberta contractors to do their tasks when there are qualified local people who could use the work.

Jeers to being treated like a criminal when doing the right thing by reporting identity theft. Accusing the victim is wrong. The identity theft experience is frightening enough without having false accusations.

Jeers to companies who respond to phone calls with a recorded message, stating that a call is important to them, but that I must wait. If my call was important, they would have someone answering the phone.

Jeers to cyclists who cross an intersection even though there is a red light. Anyone who does that should consider themselves fortunate they don’t get hit by a vehicle.
