Cheers and Jeers for September 16

Cheers: Cheers to the business community for donating to our local service clubs and organizations. Without your support, membership fees would be substantially higher. Local residents should support those who support the community.

Cheers to everyone who was involved with the dedication of the Estevan Soldiers’ Tree monument. It is truly a magnificent tribute to the Canadian military, and the dedication ceremony couldn’t have been any better.

Cheers to Prairie Mud Service for being inducted into the Saskatchewan Business Hall of Fame. It’s a well-deserved honour for a business that has contributed a lot to our city.

Cheers to the speed humps on Wellock Road. Something has to be done. There are too many people who drive too fast on that street. If people are upset about speed humps, then maybe they shouldn’t speed.

Cheers to the Prairie Winds Motorcycle Club for organizing another enjoyable motorcycle ride for Ronald McDonald House. It helps a very worthy cause.

Jeers:

Jeers to local restaurants which can't manage their staff efficiently and make excuses for poor service. Working patrons shouldn't have to wait 40 minutes or more for a simple meal on their lunch hour.

Jeers to all the people that are still driving and texting. This is so dangerous. Do you think people can't tell that you are on your phones while driving? The government should increase the fine to $1,000 for a first offence.

Jeers to people who constantly criticize their municipal government or school board, but don’t have the guts to run for elected office. They might learn how tough the job really is if they ran.

Jeers to those who are playing their stereos too loudly. It’s nice that you’re having a party, but keep the music down so the rest of us can enjoy our evening.

Jeers to adults who allow children to ride their bicycles without a helmet. It’s a dangerous practice, and thanks to Estevan’s new traffic bylaw, it’s also against the law.
