To the Editor:
Many years ago we had capital punishment, where a death warrant was issued on the life of the guilty. That was justly done away with.
Now, however, it seems a “death warrant” can be issued on the life of the innocent. What a shameful indignity!
O boy, we have slipped the slope backwards! The word “unethical” obviously means very little.
How can a judge with any moral integrity issue an order permitting the death of anyone under any circumstances?
There should always be a 30-day psychiatric evaluation of those seeking to end their life. The Criminal Code has not yet been changed by Parliament.
How can any judge feel free to circumvent the law? They have no right to do so. I’ll never believe the majority of Canadians are in favour of physician-assisted suicide. Never!
There is too much uncertainty out there. We are between the devil and the deep blue sea. I am very angry and upset by this whole messy business.
