Niklas Edin and his team won the WestJet Player’s Championship curling event on the weekend, beating Mike McEwen 5-3 in the final. Team Edin finished the round robin with a 3-2 record and in third place in Pool B. He went on to beat Peter De Cruz in the quarter-final and Kyle Smith in the semifinal. This is Edin’s third Player’s Championship title. The final event is the Champions Cup.
In the Arena Football League, the Philadelphia Soul got past the Tampa Bay Storm 56-52 in a close game. The Soul’s record is 1-0 and their next game is against the Washington Valor.
The other score from last week was the Baltimore Brigade beat the Cleveland Gladiators 52-49.
In Major League Baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays took one of four games from the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend. The Jays are in last place in the American League East Division.
As for NCAA Baseball, the No. 12 Florida Gators took two of three games from the Vanderbilt Commodores on the weekend. The Gators are in second place in the South Eastern Conference’s East Division.
In Major League Soccer, Toronto FC lost to the Columbus Crew 2-1 in a close game. Toronto’s record is 1-1-4 and they are in ninth place in the Eastern Conference.
The Calgary Roughnecks lost to the Vancouver Stealth 15-11 in a close game in National Lacrosse League action. The Roughnecks record is 7-10 and they will close out the regular season against the Saskatchewan Rush.
In the American Hockey League, the Ontario Reign lost both of their games to the San Diego Gulls to close out the season. The Reign finished the regular season with a 36-21-10-1 record and they will face the same San Diego Gulls in the first round of the playoffs.
