Finding something to do is easy
 in Estevan

The Energy City is the place to be active this summer and, dare we say it, the place to be energetic. The options for leisure that abound around Estevan and our neighbouring communities are truly astounding.

The Energy City is the place to be active this summer and, dare we say it, the place to be energetic.

The options for leisure that abound around Estevan and our neighbouring communities are truly astounding. There are opportunities for activity, and while some are difficult to find diamonds in the rough, others are longstanding pinnacles in our city that too many of us put off attending because there will always be another day.

Well this summer is the time to do it. Today is the time. Carpe diem! Get involved. It's much more trouble to decide what to do than to find something to do.

The Relay for Life is running its annual event this weekend, providing not only a chance to get out, be active and have some fun but also to help raise money to combat a terrible disease and give something back to so many people in the community.

The Shriner's circus returned to Affinity Place on Tuesday, bringing large-scale entertainment and wonder to the city.

The fair is coming to town in less than two weeks, and next week is the inaugural Energy Expo.

The Souris Valley Museum took people back in time to the Roaring '20s last Friday and before too long the Souris Valley Theatre productions will begin once again at Frehlick Hall, whisking audiences off to other times and places as well.

Engines are revving at the Estevan Motor Speedway every couple of weeks and remember the Farmers' Market is every Saturday.

We don't need to rhyme off each of the countless activities or entertainment options because, frankly, we don't have the space to include everyone and everything. There's so much to do it's easy to take these options for granted, and when we take them for granted we stop going. We forget that these activities are special and unique and provide a chance for us to grow and connect with others in our community.

They do more than let us pass the time. They help us build relationships and encourage a richer sense of place among our peers.

There are enough options to run the full gamut of experiences whether you're looking to volunteer and give back or you just want an entertaining evening. United Way Estevan's annual concentration of people helping people through the Day of Caring is today, and it's an easy way to get outside and aid in a project that wouldn't be completed without you.

And as for places in our community that could always accept more users, the city's parks are great places for kids to play and parents to relax in. There are enough that there is one within a short walk from where anyone lives in the city, and they're waiting for book readers or picnic planners to while away an afternoon. They're already paid for, and they're welcoming places on the many sunny days to come over the next few months.

So go to the Souris Valley Museum or the art gallery. Attend the Party in the Park or Beach Bash. Be active. Be energetic. Find something to spend your free time on that makes the community a better place or helps you connect with others in your neighbourhood. It's the time of year to be doers.
