The Editor,
A Saskatchewan Green Party Government would require drilling for oil to happen at a minimum distance from an occupied dwelling agreed to mutually by the Energy Company, local residents, and the landowners. This idea for Real Change is included in the party’s Surface Rights platform for the coming provincial election. The rights of landowners and residents need to be respected in oil exploration. It’s unacceptable for Energy Companies to drill too close to a home if that is against the wishes of the landowners and local residents. There will only be Real Change for rural people when the lessee of Surface Rights plays fair. Mutual agreements for drilling should include bottom holes that result from horizontal fracking. When the rights of landowners are enforced, then it is possible for Real Change for all Saskatchewan people.
