Jacobs wins the Boost National

Team Brad Jacobs won the Boost National Grand Slam Event, which was in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He beat Team Reid Caruthers 4-2 in the final.

Jacobs finished the round robin in a tie for second place with a 2-2 record, then beat John Morris in the quarterfinal and Brad Gushue in the semifinal. The next event is the Canadian open.

In NCAA Division 1AA Football, the North Dakota State Bison beat the South Dakota State Jackrabbits 36-10 in the quarterfinal round. The Bison will now face the James Maddison Dukes in the semifinal.

In the NFL, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the New Orleans Saints 16-11 in a close game. Tampa Bay’s record is 8-5 and their next game is against the Dallas Cowboys.

Other scores from week 14 were: the New York Giants got past the Cowboys 10-7, the Green Bay Packers hammered the Seattle Seahawks 38-10, and the Miami Dolphins edged the Arizona Cardinals 26-23.

In Major League Soccer’s championship final, Toronto FC lost to the Seattle Sounders 4-3 in penalty kicks after a scoreless game. This is the first championship for the Sounders.

In the American Hockey League, the Ontario Reign beat the Charlotte Checkers 3-0 in a one-sided game. The Reign’s record is 10-5-5 and they are in fifth place in the Western Conference.

In Western Hockey League play, the Regina Pats split their games over the weekend. They hammered the Swift Current Broncos 8-1 on Dec. 10 then they lost to the Saskatoon Blades 2-1 the next night. The Pats are in first place in the Eastern Conference.

In the Ontario Hockey League, the Windsor Spitfires won both of their games over the weekend. The Spitfires are in second place in the Western Conference.
