Resident wants garbage and recycling done fairly by city

To the Editor: Your question of the week got me to thinking about garbage and recycling. I’m wondering why condo dwellers aren’t treated like residents of the city? Take, for example, the short street of Bannerman.

Your question of the week got me to thinking about garbage and recycling. I’m wondering why condo dwellers aren’t treated like residents of the city?
Take, for example, the short street of Bannerman. I believe there are six residents and one duplex (a mini-condo with two residents) on the east side of the street. I’m going to assume, for easy figuring, that each resident pays $2,000 in taxes, or a total of $16,000.
Now, on the west side of the street, there are 22 residents paying the same $2,000 a month or a total of $44,000 a month. You grade the whole street for snow removal etc.
You pick up garbage on the east side of the street, on the $16,000 side, but the $44,000 side is left to “pay their own”.
Does that really seem fair? Are we not part of the city? Are these residents not more likely to support local merchants than some others who like a trip to Estevan or Regina once in a while?
I also understand we are to be “left on our own”when it comes to recycling. Does the city want recyclable stuff kept out of the garbage dump? Is the city concerned about “the dump” being filled up in, say, 10 years?
A lot of us won’t be here in 10 years, so, should we care? Or should we just dump everything in our garbage bin, which we are paying for anyway?
I, personally, recycle as much as I can. (I would like to thank the Co-op for taking plastic bags and egg cartons.)
I know there are others who recycle nothing, maybe pop cans and some bottles. The rest goes in our garbage bin. Almost everything can be recycled — just ask the lady at Blue Earth. There just has to be a fair way of doing it.
