Soak up February

Soak up February…well that’s not something I’ve ever thought to say. But in all reality, every month we get to see is a blessing, even if it’s at the tail end of a long cold winter that has had far too many days below -40 C.

Soak up February…well that’s not something I’ve ever thought to say. But in all reality, every month we get to see is a blessing, even if it’s at the tail end of a long cold winter that has had far too many days below -40 C.

I am thankful for the gift it is to experience each month and season, and so I figured let’s sprinkle that with a little bit of intention.

If you want to join me in intentionally being present and taking time to enjoy the month of February, cut out this article and post it on your fridge so you can follow along!

February ideas:

·       Look up a Groundhog forecast on the second and mark it in your calendar. Are we in for an early spring?

·       Hang a strand of twinkle lights in your favourite room.

·       Have at least one candlelit dinner. Maybe a whole week of candlelit dinners.

·       Pack a thermos of hot cocoa and take your family for a walk in the woods.

·       Fill plastic containers with coloured water and set it outside to freeze. Build an ice block Inukshuk somewhere to show you were there.

·       Make a few handmade Valentines to mail or drop off to friends, families or strangers.

·       Buy clearance chocolate after Valentine’s Day and have a chocolate fondue with all your favourite fruits and snacks to dip.

·       Go to the library and choose a novel to read aloud as a family.

·       When the weather reaches single digits, pack up and go sledding.

·       Plan a mini ski trip. The snow won’t be here forever.

·       Take advantage of the indoor pool in Estevan and plan a swimming date, or at least a hot tub date.

I know by now we are fairly “over” winter. I am definitely in that camp. But us Saskatchewanians are a tough people, and we can fully embrace the winter and thrive in spite of perhaps non-ideal weather conditions. Keep the Hygge (Scandanavian approach to being cozy all winter) going strong.

I’d love to hear if you tried any of these things, so pop me a message if you did.
