I love breakfast food. I could and do eat it for any meal of the day.
Brunch holds a huge appeal to me but it’s something I rarely go out to take part in. Hosting a brunch at home, though, sounds like a fun idea, and to give it a little more pizzazz or kid appeal why not combine super heroes and brunch?
Superhero paraphernalia is abundant in our day and age and so incorporating it as a theme has never been easier. My kids love any chance to dress up and so wearing superhero gear to brunch is a must.
I also like that superhero costumes are pretty easy to come up with. By cutting a T-shirt’s front and arms off, while leaving the collar, you can easily make a no sew cape. Then either paint or cut out a fabric monogram and glue it on to personalize it.
I don’t love to cook and so simple options definitely appeal to me. A cereal buffet can work into the theme in a fun way, but change the names of all the cereal. Some examples are Apple Jacks Bauer, because obviously Jack Bauer from 24 is a superhero, Captain America Crunch, Cocoa Kryptonite, Rings of Power (Fruit Loops), Invisicharms, etc.
As for decor, a primary colour (red, blue and yellow) scheme harkens you back to the vintage comic world. On one wall you could use newspaper to build a city skyline and put yellow squares on to resemble lit windows.
Wrap your napkins and utensils with easy to make superhero emblems of your choice. Think the “S” for Superman, a star in a circle for Captain America or the bat symbol for Batman.
If you’re up for a lazy late morning pick out your favourite superhero movie to watch together as a family. If you’re up for being a little more active, maybe create an obstacle course in your house or a laser maze with streamers that you time yourselves going through.
Don’t forget to take pictures in action poses of all your superheroes.
