John Morris and his team won the Princess Auto Elite 10 Grand Slam curling event. They got past Brad Jacobs and his team in the final. Morris scored in three ends for a score of plus one to Jacobs, who scored in two ends. Morris finished the round-robin with a 3-1 record and tied for first place with Jeff Stoughton. Curling season isn’t over yet, as the next event is the Player’s Championship.
In NCAA Baseball, the No. 11 Florida Gators were swept by the Auburn Tigers on the weekend. The Gators are in fifth place in the South Eastern Conference’s East Division.
As for Major League Baseball’s spring training, the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-5. Then they lost to the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 and they tied the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-11 to finish the weekend with a 1-1-1 record.
In Major League Soccer, Toronto FC edged the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 in a close game. Toronto’s record is 1-0-2 and they are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
Switching to hockey, the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League swept the home-and-home with the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Pats finished the regular season with their best record of 52-12-7-1 for 112 points. The Pats will face the Calgary Hitmen in the first round of the playoffs.
In the Ontario Hockey League, the Windsor Spitfires split their games on the weekend. The Spitfires finished the regular season with a 41-19-5-3 record and 90 points, and they will face the London Knights in the first round of the playoffs.
As for the American Hockey League, the Ontario Reign lost both of their games to the Charlotte Checkers on the weekend. The Reign are in sixth place in the Western Conference.
