Team Ontario wins the Scotties

Team Ontario, skipped by Rachel Homan, beat Team Manitoba, skipped by Michelle Englot, 8-6 in an extra end final. Ontario finished the round robin with a 10-1 record but then lost the one vs two page playoff game against Manitoba.

Homan would rebound by beating Northern Ontario, skipped by Krista McCarville, in the semifinal. Rachel Homan and her team will now represent Canada at the Women’s World Curling Championships in Beijing.

At NASCAR’s Daytona 500, Kurt Bush won the race ahead of Ryan Blaney. The race was marred by three wrecks. Kevin Harvick started the race in fifth but finished in 22nd place. The next race is the Folds of Honour Quick Trip 500.

In the National Lacrosse League, the Calgary Roughnecks lost to the Saskatchewan Rush 12-10 in overtime. The Roughnecks record is 3-5 and they are in third place in the West Division.

The Los Angeles Clippers of the NBA split their games on the weekend. The Clippers are in fifth place in the Western Conference.

The Toronto Blue Jays lost both of their split squad games on the weekend in Major League Baseball spring training action. The Blue Jays were in last place in the Grapefruit League.

In NCAA Baseball, the No. 2 Florida Gators swept the Miami Hurricanes over the weekend. The Gators are in first place in the South Eastern Conference’s East Division.

The Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League split their two home games with the Swift Current Broncos on the weekend. The Pats remain in first place in the Eastern Conference.

In the American Hockey League, the Ontario Reign split their games on the weekend. The Reign are in third place in the Pacific Division.
