April was a tough month for everyone as the sacrifices we’re all making to flatten the curve of COVID-19 are proving to be an ongoing struggle. Saskatchewan people have grit.

The editor: I became a criminal on May 1; not through my own actions but due to a decision made by Justin Trudeau. With the stroke of a pen, Trudeau made me and 2.1 million other Canadians criminals.

Canada is in the midst of an unplanned and massive universal basic income experiment. We are spending $24 billion (and counting) to provide basic monthly income via direct payments to Canadians.

A universal basic income for all Canadians – this conception seems remarkably engaging – specifically during a time when an ongoing crisis has affected the incomes of so many.

Putting opposing political notions aside, the oil and gas industry has been the lifeblood for many economies, especially in the west, for decades.

Do you remember 8-tracks? I do. In fact, when I got my first car, one of the first things I did was install an 8-track player. Soon, cassette tapes became popular, so I had to buy the adaptor that allowed me to play them in the 8-track player.

We are in the midst of a global pandemic of the kind likely none of us expected. There will be much work done to see how this all started, how did it get so out of hand and what we can do to keep this from happening again.
