I found myself trudging through a muddy, mosquito-ridden field at 11 p.m. the other night on my first day back from holidays thinking about how fortunate I was to be able to do this for a living.

The announcement wasn’t a surprise, but it doesn’t make it any easier to swallow. SaskPower has announced it won’t be retrofitting Units 4 and 5 of the Boundary Dam Power Station with carbon capture and storage technologies.

The writing was on the wall, now that I think of it, and it has been for quite a while.

For North American readers, July is a month to celebrate. We Canadians mark July 1 as Canada Day, in tribute to our 151 years as a nation; to the south, our friends and neighbours celebrate their 242nd birthday on July 4. Happy birthday to all of us.

Imagine that the apostle Paul has been told that several groups within the church at Corinth have been arguing about which is the most important. Therefore, he calls them together and offers to judge their competition.

The Justice for Our Stolen Children protesters got what they wanted. They had their meeting with the provincial government earlier this week. They provided their list of requests or demands to the government, which is well within their right.

We were supposed to be celebrating Canada Day by enjoying the perks of legalized cannabis. Our prime minister, referred to by such nicknames as “The Sequel,” “Sunny Ways 2” and “The Drama King,” had decreed it.

Cheers to all who worked to provide the great band at the Estevan pre-Canada Day celebration and the awesome fireworks in both Estevan and Bienfait. Cheers to all those who are involved with hosting the Canada Day celebration at Oungre Park.

What's on your plate today? It was day one of our summer vacation and we were looking for a place to stop for a picnic lunch we had packed that morning.
