WEYBURN – The Weyburn Humane Society’s major annual fundraiser, the "Ride for Paws – Support the Cause" raffle, has extended its ticket sales period.
The society is selling chances to win a brand-new 2025 Jeep Compass North 4x4, provided by Weyburn Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. But ticket sales are slower than hoped. The draw for the Jeep was originally set for Aug. 23.
“The deadline to purchase tickets ends on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. with the draw being made Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.,” said Beverly Pau,l Weyburn Humane Society board president.
In addition to the grand prize Jeep, the fundraiser will also award two significant cash prizes.
“We do have two cash prizes as well that will be drawn at the same time as the vehicle, one is for $3,000. The other one is for $2,000, and the winners of those cash draws will go back into the drum for a chance to be drawn as well for the vehicle.”
A total of 2,000 tickets are available for purchase at $100 each. They can be bought at the Weyburn Humane Society animal shelter, the Pet Valu store in Weyburn, or at the Weyburn Chrysler Jeep Ram dealership.
“We are hoping to sell out of course,” said Paul.
The success of the raffle is vital for the shelter’s operations.
“The whole purpose of this fundraiser is to make sure we have the funds in place to look after the animals that come into our care,” said Paul.
The shelter is currently at capacity for August, and is on an intake freeze. Last year the shelter took in 220 cats and 114 dogs, two guinea pigs, six rabbits, one hawk and one goose.
