Weyburn Review

There were two new COVID-19 cases reported in the South East 3 zone on April 27, which includes Weyburn and area. According to the daily COVID-19 report from the Saskatchewan Health Authority, there are 53 active cases in the Weyburn area.

The City of Weyburn provided an update about construction progress on the Credit Union Spark Centre, which will receive $917,930 in combined federal-provincial funding toward its completion.

The Weyburn Credit Union had its second highest growth in deposits, and one of their slowest years for loans, in 2020, due in most part to the COVID-19 pandemic, members and staff heard at the Credit Union’s annual meeting held via Zoom.

The Weyburn Police Service received 83 calls for service during the week of April 19 to 25, resulting in eight traffic related charges, 11 Criminal Code charges, and 1 charge under the Alcohol & Gaming Regulations Act .

Weyburn City Council approved changes to the Weyburn Builds Infill Grant Program which expands funding eligibility for new constructions in the city and better encourages the revitalization of older neighbourhoods.

Local residents are being warned that they may be the target of a “one-ring” phone scam. One-ring calls may appear to be from phone numbers somewhere in Canada, including three initial digits that resemble local area codes.

Archery is a very popular activity for the Weyburn Wildlife Federation, since the group first started up in March of 2013.
