SIMMIE — The tradition continues with the seventh Simmie Sizzler this summer. Located approximately 40 minutes' drive from Shaunavon, Cadillac or Swift Current, the hamlet of Simmie is once again hosting this fundraiser, courtesy of the Simmie Recreation Board.
Trampus Lacelle, president, says it's the same great committee, which brought you the best rink burger in the Southwest last winter. That is putting it on.
"We appreciate people's support, as the Simmie Sizzler is a community-organized event and a way to raise funds. It's the main fundraiser for the hall and the rink," Trampus says.
While the Simmie Sizzler used to be held on the August long weekend, Lacelle says they're trying something different this year and have switched the date to July 26.
The event has averaged 200-300 people, and can sell out. The hall has a limited capacity of 325, including inside and outside fenced-off areas, so buying tickets early is essential. Lacelle emphasizes that they would prefer to sell tickets ahead of time. Tickets are $35 for this ID-required event, and the easiest way to purchase them is via e-transfer. The hall and rink fundraiser is all about having "good fun," as Trampus says, with not one but two bands performing - one inside and one outside. One of the bands is the ever-popular country-western band Bakersfield from Southwest Saskatchewan.
When planning to attend, remember that doors open at 8:30 PM and close at 2 AM. Drinks, including alcohol and non-alcoholic options, will be sold, and there will be live entertainment both inside the hall and outside in a gated area. Food will also be available for sale, courtesy of Louie D's catering from Swift Current, and there will be an ATM on site.
