ASSINIBOIA — Everyone loves a barbecue as well as the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and visit with other community members. However, those supporting he weekly Better Together barbecues may not know their purchase helps fund Assiniboia’s Recreation Department, who in turn helps put on events like July 17 movie in the park, free for everyone.
Recreation and Community Wellness Manager, Steph VanDeSype, says, “Moana 2 played in Centennial Park on July 17. Armed with Harmony is the company that comes and sets up and plays the movie as there are strict licensing rules for outdoor movies.”
VanDeSype says they are thankful for their work in setting up such a huge screen and taking care of the logistics for the community program.
“This is another great event brought to the community by the town of Assiniboia rec department. The funds brought in by the BBQs help to offset these event costs”
TOA has been hosting this free, fun summer activity for several years and VanDeSype affirms it is always well attended. Attendees bring their blankets, lawn chairs and are able to enjoy all the delicious options available at the pool concession.
The Better Together barbecues continue at the Aquatic Centre parking lot every Tuesday of summer. Sponsorship from community groups and businesses help with expenses and proceeds of this weekly event are ear marked for recreation and community wellness programming.
