ASSINIBOIA — Born in Assiniboia, Travis Marit still calls the town home, even though his hockey career took him elsewhere. The hometown hockey player now dedicates himself to young athlete development.
Marit is the owner and operator of Evolved Hockey. Combining a lifetime of on-ice experience with knowledge in strength and conditioning, Marit is dedicated to helping the next generation of athletes reach their full potential.
Some say from their experiences with Marit, his mandate is to train and inspire, championing young athlete development.
In addition to offering the elite hockey school in Assiniboia, Marit also serves as strength and conditioning coach for the Richardson Pioneer Jr. B Rebels. He works in the off-season in the new gym, guiding hockey players and other athletes through the safe and proper use of training equipment.
Marit, who plays with the Assiniboia Sr. Rebels, was named playoff MVP in the Noteku Hockey League. The congratulatory post read, “Your hard work, grit and dedication really showed out there on the ice; well deserved.”
These are the same qualities Marit brings to Evolved Hockey.
The program runs year-round in different capacities. Marit says the athlete development opportunity blends hockey skills with strength and conditioning training, giving young athletes the chance to excel.
Whether a player’s goal is to advance through junior, earn a spot in college hockey, or sharpen their game, the Evolved Hockey program is rooted in personalized development and long-term growth.
“I’ve seen firsthand what it takes to compete at every level of this game,” Marit said. “My goal is to help players in southern Saskatchewan evolve — not just as hockey players, but as athletes. Strength, skill and mindset all go hand in hand.”
From September to mid-October, Marit’s elite hockey program will take place at Southland Co-op Centre, running Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through Sundays.
Marit’s hockey career included time in both the Sask. Junior Hockey League and Manitoba Junior Hockey League, where he built a reputation as a hard-working, disciplined athlete.
His later career took him to the NCAA University of Concordia. His integrity and understanding of the game led him to become an official in both the American Hockey League and the Western Hockey League.
Small-town communities often only get these opportunities through once-a-season camps with guest facilitators. With Marit’s program, Assiniboia and area benefit from six weeks of continual programming to start the hockey season.
