I'm sure you've heard the saying that there are no friends in football. Well, for Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker A.J. Allen, that isn't exactly the case when it comes to B.C. Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke. Allen admits that the two have a special bond, except for when they're on the field this week.
“You're stuck between, like, obviously we want to win every game, right? And he's the opposing quarterback. I want to make sure he has a horrible day. But also at the end of the day, again, he's a great guy, he's a friend. So you want to see people get out the game healthy and stuff like that. But I hope, with all due respect, I hope he has a horrible day. I hope he can't see. I hope he's got two left eyes and two left arms and two left feet as well. And he throws 17 interceptions, and he rushes for negative 80 yards. And he fumbles eight times. I hope that, because that means we're having a great day. So again, I obviously wish him the best and all that stuff. But right now, he's the opposing quarterback. We got things to do and things to achieve.”
Allen, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Rourke's B.C. Lions will meet Saturday in Vancouver, a game you can hear across the 620 CKRM Cooperators Rider Broadcast Network starting at 2 p.m. with the countdown to kickoff. Game time is at 5 p.m.
