Canada falls short, misses super round at men’s softball World Cup in Prince Albert

Needing a win to stay alive, Team Canada came up short Thursday night, falling 7-3 to Argentina at the 2025 WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup in Prince Albert.

Argentina’s Alan Peker led the way with two home runs, including a three-run blast in the seventh inning to seal their first win of the tournament.

Canada trailed 3-1 after four innings, but tied it in the fifth with a two-run homer from Mathieu Roy. Argentina responded with one in the sixth and three more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

With a 1-2 record after pool play, Canada misses the super round and will now compete in the placement round. They’ll face the Dominican Republic Friday night and Australia Saturday afternoon.

Friday’s Schedule (All times local):

  • 11:30 AM – Australia vs. Argentina (Placement Round)

  • 2:30 PM – USA vs. New Zealand (Super Round)

  • 5:30 PM – Canada vs. Dominican Republic (Placement Round)

  • 8:30 PM – Japan vs. Venezuela (Super Round)

Japan, New Zealand, Venezuela, and USA advanced to the super round. The top two will play for Gold on Sunday, while the next two will compete for Bronze.
