The Prairie Junior Hockey League is expanding to 12 teams in time for the 2025-2026 season.
Moosomin has been granted an expansion franchise. The Moosomin Steelhawks will begin play in the fall.
The Town of Moosomin confirmed that expansion into the PJHL has been several years in the making. The PJHL has been looking to add a sixth franchise in the south division for several years, and over that time, Moosomin has often been expressed as the desired destination.
Moosomin was a Junior B powerhouse in the 1970s, so this is not new to the community, and the Steelhawks' arrival will mark a progression from minor hockey to the Senior Rangers.
The Steelhawks will be a privately owned and operated franchise. To be accepted into the league, they were required to give the PJHL a detailed budget and a sizable bond.
