Saskatchewan Roughriders release seven as main training camp set to begin

Coaching staff paring roster to 85 players as main camp starts at 8 a.m. Sunday at Griffiths Field

SASKATOON -- The Saskatchewan Roughriders made their first round of training camp cuts one day after the conclusion of rookie camp in Saskatoon.

The team announced Saturday morning that they had made the following roster moves, with seven players released: 

  • National defensive back Richard Aduboffour
  • National defensive lineman Kolade Amusan 
  • American quarterback Michael Hiers 
  • American receiver Jayden Horace
  • American defensive lineman Octavious Oxendine 
  • National linebacker Zachary Philion 
  • American defensive back Alfahiym Walcott 

The Roughriders also announced the retirement of National kicker Ben Hadley. The Halifax native had been signed by the team on Nov. 24 after two All-Canadian seasons with St. Francis Xavier. 

Coors Light Roughriders Training Camp begins at the University of Saskatchewan’s Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Be sure to keep an eye on Sportscage.com for updates and stores all throughout camp.
