It's been 11 years since Yorkton Terriers forward Derek Falloon's overtime heroics in Vernon, BC, which was the last time a Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League team won a National Junior Hockey Championship.

One year ago, the Melfort Mustangs battled their way to the championship game of the 2024 Centennial Cup.

But the Collingwood Blues had other ideas and they came up one victory short.

Fast forward to this year, the Mustangs dominated the SJHL regular season from start to finish winning 46 of 56 regular season games, lost just twice while allowing just 19 goals in 14 postseason games en route to another repeat.

Now 13 players returned from last year's team along with their coaching staff and a new group of rookies and players that have been inserted that have contributed tremendously during their run.

So now the back-to-back SJHL champs will earn their second chance at a national title in Calgary, Alberta and this time they plan to finish the job.
