For decades, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have been more than a football team — they’ve been a symbol of provincial pride and unity. But as the province grows and changes, so does the Riders' place in its identity.
The team still matters. From game day traditions to green jerseys in every corner of the province, the Riders continue to unite people across rural and urban Saskatchewan. In a province without an NHL team, they remain a central part of the sports landscape.
But things are shifting. Saskatchewan is becoming more diverse and connected to global sports.
Younger fans are just as likely to follow NFL or NBA stars as they are to cheer for the Riders. The team's cultural influence is no longer automatic — it has to be earned.
To stay relevant, the Riders need to grow with the province: connect with new fans, embrace change, and, most importantly, win and so far this year they are starting to take steps to do just that.
