I'm Teagan Witko with the Regina Red Sox report brought to you by Unifor 594 energy workers, putting the care in career since 1942: safety is our business.
The Regina Red Sox kicked off the 2025 season at Curry Field on Thursday evening. The club started on the right foot with a dominant 11-1 victory over the Swift Current 57s. Team president Gary Bratzel says familiar faces in the dugout will surely help the club's success this season.
“Well, we had tremendous chemistry last year, and I can tell you it’s going to be great this year. We have 14 or 15 returning players, and all our leaders from last year are back. I can tell the leadership from some of our new recruits is going to be through the roof. Yeah, I’m just so excited about it; we literally have like 12 leaders in the clubhouse. It’s fantastic,” Brotzel said.
Brotzel added that the team is still waiting on some players to arrive at the clubhouse, including fan favourite Jackson Syring and four pitchers from the LSU Shreveport Pilots who just won the NAIA championship on Friday.
The Sox followed the season-opening win by shutting out the Weyburn Beavers 5-0 on Friday night, then dropped a road contest against the Berries in Saskatoon on Saturday. It's a rest day for the club now ahead of a two-game series at Currie Field as the Medicine Hat Mavericks roll into the Queen City tomorrow. Later this week, the Sox will travel to Swift Current for a two-game series, then host the Fort McMurray Giants for a pair of games this weekend.
