SASKATOON -- Some of the top water skiers in the country will be in Saskatchewan this weekend for he Western Canadian Waterski Championships at the Saskatoon Water Ski Club.
Athletes from B.C., Alberta and Manitoba will join Saskatchewan competitors in the classic championship event, which will feature the traditional three events of water ski jumping, slalom and trick competitions.
Saskatchewan will feature a trio of skiers from the Sask First High Performance Team, with Sophie Strilchuk, Carter Lucas and Samson Clunie all taking part.
All three competitors have seen success this season and will be looking for the same this weekend.
Lucas and Clunie recently took part in the Junior Canadian Open and recorded personal bests, with Lucas clearing 204 feet (62.2 metres) in the Open Men’s Division and Clunie clearing 165 feet (50.3 metres) in the U17 division. Clunie was a double gold medalist in the class, thanks to also winning the slalom with four buoys on a 12-metre line.
Strilchuk had a perfect weekend at the Open, winning all three events in the U17 women’s division.

The Saskatoon Water Ski Club can be found at the 58th Street Storm Retention Pond on the corner of 58th Street and Faithful Avenue, with action taking place Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day.
