When Annette Sigstad was asked to make food for a business function four years ago, she never expected it would grow into the successful catering business Sigstads Prairie Catering is today. Now, the newest venture of the family-owned and operated business is bringing home cooked meals out of the house, grab and go style.

“It’s a healthy, wholesome alternative to any fast food option you’re probably getting for lunch,” explained Annette, the owner and operator of Sigstads Prairie Catering. Available at the Sigstad storefront located in North Battleford, these on the go lunches are made fresh from whole ingredients five days a week. The changing menu offers a wide variety of lunch time favourites, from Greek chicken and potato wedges to Asian-style spare ribs and rice. Popular dishes, including Annette’s famous Japanese cabbage salad and her turkey bacon ranch wrap also make frequent appearances to the Grab-n-Go menu. Hot meal options are always offered alongside soups, salads, sandwiches, or wraps, to satisfy any and all lunch time cravings.

“The meals are $7 and they’re hot and ready to go as quick as fast food,” Annette said, “just a lot healthier.”

Since its inception in 2014, the demand for home cooked meals, whether for catered events or for a quick lunch, has spiked. Annette’s business, which she runs with the help of her husband, daughter, and three other part time employees, has grown in tandem with this demand.

“I think there’s a big need for good quality foods available for lunch,” Annette said, admitting that she also caves into her fast food cravings every once in a while. “But if you eat at fast food everyday, you feel bleh, so what I offer is good, home cooked, comfort foods that don’t only taste good, but are good for you.”
