What's life all about if we don't have dreams and do our best to live each day to its fullest?
We all have things we'd like to accomplish, places we'd like to visit, and maybe people we would like to meet before our time is up, the difference between people though, is that some are determined to act on their dreams while others let them fade away. I have to say, I truly admire those who rather than bemoan their fate, take action.
As I type, there's a young guy from Australia in Regina awaiting the arrival of a brand new baby. It's not his baby, nor had he even met the woman who is about to give birth before this week. Twenty-nine-year-old Sebastian Terry has a list of goals and on it, one was to deliver a baby.
It all started about 13 months ago. With about $9,000 in his bank account Terry says he compiled a list of 100 things he is determined to do before he dies. Number 23 on his quest for "true fulfillment" is to deliver a baby and to his surprise a Regina resident stepped up and decided to let Terry do just that. "I think the act of a child being born is just amazing," says Terry adding he's grateful and feels blessed to be provided with the opportunity.
The death of a friend several years back he says, has been an inspiration to change up his life. "It made me think about life and what's important. I started to write down everything that was important to me in life. I just decided there and then to drop everything to complete my list of everything I ever wanted to do."
From that point on he's experienced more than 35 of his 100 goals and he hopes to accomplish half before the end of the year. It matters not how simple or complex your list is, says Terry but only that you sometimes take the time to do things for you and you alone. To date he's done everything from cycling across Cuba, to marrying a complete stranger in Las Vegas, to starting up a fund raising charity for children with the hefty goal of bringing in $100,000 (see his entire list at www.100things.com.au).
Granted, we can't all pick up and travel the world on a whim to 'feed our souls', we can though, take little steps towards living more satisfying lives. There's always going to be work to do, bills to pay and things to worry about - these things aren't going anywhere - so that being said, if we don't do at least a little bit to feel fulfilled, what's really the point of it all?
