It's on again for another season. The annual Health Foundation's 13th annual Charity Golf Classic will be held at the Good Spirit Golf Resort offering lots of fun and prizes for participants. Health Foundation Executive Director Ross Fisher suggests the current warm spring is already generating a lot of interest in the golf season.
The annual golf classic will be played June 7, the first Thursday of June, at the Good Spirit Golf and Family Resorts, Fisher reports.
This year funds raised by the golf classic will be directed to all facilities throughout the health region, Fisher says. "We have a lot of participation from Melville, Esterhazy, Foam Lake, Canora and other communities in the region. We will return all the funds back into all the facilities throughout the health region," he explains.
The Health Foundation has canvassed the facility managers to determine the needs of their facilities and then will go out to buy equipment to meet those reported needs, Fisher elaborates.
The last three years the Charity Golf Classic has raised over $100,000, Fisher points out. "Our goal this year is to get above $100,000 again," he says. Considering what was raised when the event was introduced, it has grown very nicely and has become a kind of target for the Health Foundation, Fisher states.
The actual amount of funds raised is really up to the golfers, Fisher states. The golfers do a lot of work talking to people and raising pledges which the Health Foundation appreciates.
CAA manager Linda Koroluk who has been on the Charity Golf Classic committee since its inception, reports that the top prize to be won by the top fundraiser will be a trip for two to Cuba donated by CAA Travel. The destination in Cuba will be up to the winner, says Koroluk. "They get to choose where in Cuba they want to go," she states. The trip includes air fare from Regina and is all inclusive, she notes.
Other prizes will be cash prizes for runners up, Koroluk adds.
CAA has been the top prize sponsor for the Charity Golf Classic for all 13 years of its existence. Not only is it a very worthwhile fund raising event for the communities, but it's also been good for CAA as well, Koroluk states. "We're happy to do it. It seemed to work well all these years so some things you just don't change because they're working," Koroluk closes.
Charity Golf Classic tournament coordinator Jerry Jemieff echoes Fisher's announcement that the event will take place Thursday, June 7 at the Good Spirit Lake Golf and Family Resort. The tournament will begin with an 11 a.m shotgun start, Jemieff notes.
This year the event promises to be bigger and better than previous years, Jemieff adds.
The classic hopes to attract a full slate of 144 golfers. A number of different events like a putting contest will be offered to participants. "It just gives everyone a chance to take part in something a little different and to add a little more excitement to the day," Jemieff closes.
