One of the exhibitors at the second annual Dream Rides car show Saturday afternoon was Howard Hansen from Wanless, Manitoba which is about 25 miles north of The Pas, Man.
Hansen had a 1940 Ford Coupe Custom, with everything customized on it, on display. The roof has been chopped. The fenders have been widened. It has air suspension, a Corvette motor and a custom interior. "There isn't anything that hasn't been modified on it," Hansen claims.
The car was originally hot rodded in the 1960s. Hansen bought it from the owner in Hudson Bay in 1997. He began a long term rebuild of the car. About five years ago the roof of his workshop collapsed, basically destroying the car. After digging it out of the snow and rubble, Hansen began to rebuild the car a second time.
The unique paint job was done in McGregor, Manitoba by Kowaski Customs. The cherry bomb candy color has ghost flames on the fenders and a ghost lion graphic on the trunk lid.
Hansen, who has four other vehicles, says he will keep the car for awhile. He doesn't plan to complete any more customs to this extent. "I could have bought a nice '40 Ford for about $40,000. But I wanted something different so I bought this car, chopped it all up and built it the way I wanted it," he explains.
He's had the Ford coupe to a few shows, starting last April. He won third place for custom hot rod and first place for custom interior at the Draggins Car Show in Saskatoon. At the Winnipeg Roda-rama the coupe claimed the Manitoba Hot Rod Association Director's Choice Award.
