A fresh breath of election air

To the Editor:

I watched our Saskatchewan provincial election campaign unfold with considerable anticipation.

Saskatchewan has a high percentage of the good arable land in Canada. It is a major producer of both wheat and barley. For domestic consumption and for export. Surely someone on the provincial scene would challenge Mr. Ritz for his lack of consultation and his bully-boy tactics.

Finally, in the October 18 issue of the Leader Post, and in response to the reporters questions, Mr. Wall and Mr. Lingenfelter gave us a hint. Mr. Wall's response to Ritz was essentially "me too - so clear the track, the train is coming." Mr. Lingenfelter seemed most intent on trying to ride his horse looking both ways. He wants to see change but he supports the single desk.

I must grudgingly admit that the only Saskatchewan campaigner who makes sense on this topic and speaks clearly is the leader of the Saskatchewan Progressive Conservative Party. His position as I understand it, is as follows:

1. I have not used the services of the CWB in my own farming operation to any extent for some time now.

2. The CWB has been a very important player in the transportation and marketing of prairie grain for almost 70 years.

3. For anyone to proceed with dismantling the board without any significant analysis of the financial, technical or administrative consequences is irresponsible to the point of lunacy.

Thank you Mr. Swenson. It is indeed refreshing to finally hear a Saskatchewan voice of reason.

The name calling, sloganeering and inane prattle that we have had to endure is in great need of a breath of fresh air.

Doug Cowling, Yorkton, SK.
