Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart recently announced the fourth annual Saskatchewan Agriculture Student Scholarship.
"With a growing global demand for food comes a high demand for young people of all backgrounds to grow, process and market that food," Stewart says. "Young people should be excited about a future in agriculture and this scholarship gives applicants a chance to explore this thriving industry."
One winning scholarship valued at $4,000 and three runner-up scholarships valued at $2,000 each will be awarded to students in Grade 12 and recent graduates entering agriculture-related post-secondary studies in 2014.
Those interested in the scholarship must produce a three minute creative video or write a well-researched, fact-based 1,000 word essay that showcases one of four themes: agriculture solutions for a growing world, farmers and ranchers as environmental stewards, safe food that is responsibly produced or agriculture as a modern, forward-looking industry.
Applications will be accepted until March 1, 2014. Winning submissions will be posted on the ministry website in the spring. For more information on the Saskatchewan Agri-culture Student Scholarship, visit www.agriculture.gov.sk.ca/scholarship.
