Are you giving toxic gifts to your loved ones?

Gift-giving is a wonderful, well-intended gesture. It is meant to show the recipient that you care.

Gift-giving is a wonderful, well-intended gesture. It is meant to show the recipient that you care.

However, many people who give gifts to family and friends do not realize that they may be unintentionally delivering health problems along with the gift.

Some gifts may actually be dangerous, since they may literally increase the risk of diseases such as cancer, diabetes and arthritis!

Perhaps you are considering giving a gift basket, loaded with processed meats, hams and sausages. These are heavily promoted during the holiday season. They may even be described with natural-sounding language, to make you think they are wholesome. Unfortunately, however, almost 100 per cent of these meats contain sodium nitrite.

This is a dangerous chemical that turns these meats red and prevents spoilage by killing harmful micro-organisms. Are you aware that sodium nitrite is a dangerous cancer-causing chemical? It also promotes diabetes, by the way.

Okay, then, you say: "What about a lovely basket of sweets and chocolates?" If you think about it, you may already know the answer to that one. It will promote diabetes and obesity, not to mention all the food chemicals added to them. A moment on the lips is not worth forever on the hips!

Well, what about a basket of cheeses then? Cheese is very acid-forming in the body, leeching minerals from the bones to rebalance the pH of the blood. This can lead to osteoporosis. Also, too much acidity in the body causes problems such as inflammation, joint pain and arthritis. Also, disease thrives in acidic bodies.

So much for personal care products and food gifts. How about a new technology toy, like a mobile phone? Forget it! Mobile phones are one of the worst sources of electropollution - harmful radiation from electromagnetic fields. Electromagnetic pollution goes directly into the head. It is common knowledge that studies indicate it may cause brain cancer.

But, now, there is an added concern about a new type of diabetes, called Type 3 Diabetes. The blood sugar levels of some people start to swing wildly when they are exposed to strong electromagnetic fields. This would not be suitable, especially for someone who already has diabetes.

I trust this opens your eyes about the very real danger of toxic presents. I also have some gift suggestions for you that are not only non-toxic, but actually health-building!
