Originally conceived by a group of farmers in 1975, now the province's largest independent grain handler, Weyburn Inland Terminal Ltd., will be inducted as the 24th member of the Saskatchewan Business Hall of Fame at the upcoming ABEX Awards in Saskatoon.

Established in 1990, the Saskatchewan Business Hall of Fame recognizes those businesses which have demonstrated excellence over an extended period of time and which have contributed significantly to the economic well being of Saskatchewan and its residents.

"Weyburn Inland Terminal showcases the entrepreneurial spirit of Saskatchewan, originating from a group of farmers who saw a need and filled it, emerging not only as an economic leader, but a community leader as well," says Steve McLellan, CEO of Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce. "We're pleased to add Weyburn Inland Terminal to the Saskatchewan Business Hall of Fame and proud to have them as a business leader in our province."

"Weyburn Inland Terminal is honoured to be named the 2011 Hall of Fame inductee," says CEO Rob Davies. "It is a testament to the farmers who conceived 'The Terminal' in 1975 and those who persevered through the establishment years to create a successful farmer owned and operated business in south-east Saskatchewan."

Now, over 35 years later, Weyburn Inland Terminal continues to be an innovator and leader in western Canadian grain handling and other farm services, providing grain processing and marketing, crop input products and agronomic services, and livestock feed to farm customers in south-eastern Saskatchewan. WIT also has ownership stakes in a port terminal in Vancouver, the seed business, and the ethanol industry.

"This honour is thanks to the support of our customers, and the integrity and professionalism of our Board of Directors and staff for the innovation and foresight that has allowed WIT to be at the forefront of change as the agricultural marketplace continues to evolve," remarks Davies, adding that "their willingness to diversify our business has created additional ways for us to continue to add value to our customers' business operations."

Weyburn Inland Terminal Ltd. will be formally inducted into the Saskatchewan Business Hall of Fame at the 2011 ABEX Awards occurring on November 19, 2011 in Saskatoon.
