YORKTON BANTAM CARDINALS CENTRE FIELDER Steven St. Marie made a spectacular diving catch for the third out in the inning during the first game of a double header against the visiting Regina Buffalos.

The Yorkton AAA Bantam Cardinals had a tough weekend hosting a pair of double headers Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

Bantam Cardinals head coach Tony Black says despite the losses, the young team is developing well. Comprised mainly of first year bantams who don't have the benefit of playing baseball year round as do many of the teams in the Regina league, the Yorkton Cardinals have a lot of potential and are beginning to show a lot of skill.

"They're just starting to get their bats on the ball and their defense is starting to come along," Black reports.

The young team, which lists an underage peewee player in addition to the first year bantams, are adjusting well to the Bantam AAA league. The breaking pitch is new to most of them, Black notes. They're also playing against experienced second year youngsters.

Black suggests the team is developing well and will be considerably stronger come playoff time. "I think when playoffs hit, you're going to see a whole new ball team out there," he closes.
