We're well into the winter months but there are still many snowy days left and that means taking extra care when hitting the roadways.

St. John Ambulance is encouraging drivers to be prepared before setting out on winter roads. Recent snowy weather has highlighted the need for drivers to consider the following safety tips:

Dress appropriately for the weather outside, not the climate in the vehicle;

Keep a shovel, blankets, booster cables and a first aid kit readily available

Let someone know where you are going and check in with them when you arrive;

Ensure that you have more than enough gas to reach your destination and that your cell phone battery is fully charged.

"Drivers need to check their survival supplies before heading out," comments Michael Brenholen, St. John Director of Operations.

Ensure that items are present and in good repair within easy reach for when you might need them."

St. John Ambulance is a charitable non profit organization dedicated to improving the health and safety of Canadians. St. John is the industry leader for first aid training.
