To the Editor:
CFL Football is about to embark on an incredible, amazing football season; history is about to be made. New heroes are about to be born; competition is going to be fierce. It will be a struggle for the Saskatchewan Roughriders to win a game. Other teams are on fire and are confident they will win.Winnipeg Bluebombers, Calgary Stampeders and the Edmonton Eskimos may have the biggest chance to win the Grey Cup.
So should Rider fans give up? Instead of watching football should they instead do household chores, spend time with family or watch other sports like baseball?
Before I was employed at Wendy's I was on welfare. I lived in an improved home and went through a lot of counselling. I also worked at a business called SIGN. The highest pay cheque I made was $150. All because I had a mental illness, only a Grade nine education, not many friends, not a lot of skills, no confidence and little self-esteem.
I had to believe in myself even though people said I didn't have the skills to work, nobody would hire me and all said I would only last a week if I was hired. But I knew what failure was like. I knew what it was like to not have things work out in a positive way. When people said I couldn't do anything to change my circumstances I decided to prove my critics wrong. I decided to show them what I was capable of doing.
So Saskatchewan Roughriders, I have this to tell you: you are a talented and gifted team. You have the talent and the strength to end up in the Grey Cup final when everyone believes you'll be last in the standings. All you have to do is believe in yourselves and prove people wrong. I did it and so can you.
