Get out, meet people and enjoy a good game. That's what people can do at the Yorkton Gamer Guild's twice monthly Board Game Demonstration Nights. The events attract a wide variety of people to get together and enjoy all manner of board games.
"Playing games is more fun with more people, so we bring games, people can bring their own games if they wish, and generally come out and have fun," says Kurtis Peterson with the Yorkton Gamer Guild.
The guild itself began in 2009, with the goal of finding new people with which to share the hobby.
"This is something that we've always been talking about and batting around. We've had a small community of people who love playing games, and some games require more people. In 2009 Carter Lockhart decided to rent some tables at City Wide Registration and we thought, let's see what happens," Peterson says.
Since then, the group has found more people who enjoy playing, and launched programs such as the twice monthly meetings at the library. Peterson says that the interest has been growing steadily, with each night attracting a bigger crowd.
The games themselves have a wide variety of themes, from ninjas delivering burgers to science fiction based adventures. There's something for everyone, Peterson says, though the
"Bringing out something like Munchkin isn't really a whole lot of fun until you get four or five people playing, and that's when it really shines," Peterson relates.
The night attracted a wide variety of people in a broad range of age groups. Peterson says that board games are universal, and if people enjoy old classics like Monopoly and Risk, the games at the night take those ideas to the next level.
