Yorkton's 20th annual Bongo Volley volleyball tournament featured 27 teams this year, including 13 men's teams, six A class and eight B class women's teams. While it may not have been a record number of competing teams, it was an increase of four entries from last year, reports tournament coordinator Darren Wandy. Entries included several new, young teams, he adds.
The McSweeney Selects were the only team from Yorkton playing in the tournament. Wandy points out there were many former players from Yorkton competing on other teams this year.
Bongo Volley used a number of facilities including the Yorkton Regional High School gym, as well as M.C. Knoll/St. Michael's school gyms and the Gloria Hayden Community Centre facility.
Competition was excellent again this year, Wandy states, with strong performances by many teams.
In the men's division MooBoosh claimed the tournament title, defeating runners-up Sleezy Bandeezy in the tournament final.
Serves You Right downed runners-up Mixed Nuts in the final to win the A women's division championship.
Kiss My Pass emerged as women's B division champs over runners-up Gonzo Compadres.
In addition to thanking all those who took in the event and tournament officials, Wandy thanks Lori Banga for organizing the officiating this year.
